What is a Therapeutic Massage?

We all know what to expect from a relaxation massage. As implied we expect to enjoy the calm and relaxing experience of soft music and total me time. But what is a deep tissue Therapeutic Massage we hear so much about? What does it do? Why would I want one? To help you make an informed decision let's investigate a Therapeutic Massage. Let's look at the Who, What, Where and Why of a Therapeutic Massage.

  • Who is it about? Who benefits?
  • What does it do for you?
  • Where is this taking place? Where should you go to learn more?
  • Why is this important in the big picture? Why should you care?

Let’s start our investigation:

Who?

Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically for the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments, muscle obstructions, foot pain, pregnancy-related pains, and joint pain to ensure optimal health. Therapeutic Massage Experts are well trained clinicians who support the therapeutic teams of Physiotherapists, Manual Osteopathic Therapists and Chiropractors helping clients regain their health. In Alberta all massage therapists must have graduated from a 2200 hour accredited massage program. Clients can relax knowing they are in well trained clinician hands and will receive the best of care.

What?

Therapeutic Massage is a collection of different techniques using the therapist's hands or tools to help increase circulation, ease muscle tension, decrease muscle tightness, and improve soft tissue mobility.

Therapeutic Massage is for any person suffering from tight and tense muscles preventing the ability to truly relax and find relief from daily, achy, stiff, tight muscles. It is a proven fact that the inability to relax will cause irritability and a drain of energy. Therapeutic Massage will relieve the chronic stress, constant muscle tension and nagging fatigue for anyone suffering from these symptoms. This allows you to live each day as your best self. Some of the common techniques include Deep friction Therapy, Myofascial Release, treatment of TMJD, three different types of sports massage for each stage of an athletes training / events and muscle lengthening stretches and traction techniques to help support joint health.

Where?

Nose Creek Physiotherapy we design a customized treatment plan for each of our clients ensuring their return to health. Therapeutic Massage is used at different stages of our client's treatment plan depending on their needs. It may be to ensure our client is ready to perform their exercises and receive their manipulations or techniques on the structural side of their treatment. It may be used to relax sore muscles after doing their exercises. As a therapeutic massage stimulates blood flow it helps a client have the proper muscle condition allowing advancement to the next level of their exercise treatment plan.

Our clinicians have several techniques that address a physical condition and many other issues to calm a client's nervous systems down in the acute phase (lymphatic drainage). They provide stabilization techniques midway through their treatment plan and stimulus techniques at the end of their treatment. Once a client has finished their treatment plan, continuing a monthly massage is often used as a maintenance plan for clients with chronic injuries that benefit from regular help. When the massage therapist notes the beginning of a problem the early detection and referral back to the specialized therapist often prevents the onset of another acute injury.

Why should you choose Nose Creek Physiotherapy for your Therapeutic Massage, or any massage for that matter?
